Why should you consider being custom fit for golf clubs? http://golf.about.com/cs/tipslessons/a/aa041003a.htm
Any golfer who is about to invest in their game by purchasing a new set of clubs should make one more investment, too: a custom club fitting.
Every golfer is a bit different in size, body shape and the shape of their golf swing. A custom club fitting results in clubs that are specifically suited to an individual's height, strength, club head speed and swing characteristics.
Off-the-shelf golf clubs are one-size-fits-all, designed for the "typical" golfer. In this case, typical means someone 5-foot-9 or 5-10 who hits a 5- or 6-iron 160 yards. A golfer might get lucky with an off-the-shelf set, but many golfers will find themselves ill-suited to such a set.
And the adjustments a golfer makes in his or her game to compensate for an ill-fitting set can make grooving a great swing that much more difficult.
A club fitting can be performed by nearly any pro shop or golf pro, although it's best to get with a teaching pro and be certain to hit balls outdoors so that the ball flight can be observed.
Contrary to the belief of many, a custom club fitting does not have to be a time-consuming or expensive endeavor. A very basic club fitting might take as little as 15 minutes, with the average being 30-45 minutes.
Contact our Pro Shop to schedule your custom fitting with one of our qualified CPGA Professionals (403) 934 - 2299 Ext 1.
FACT: From Dean Snell, Senior Director of Research and Development for golf balls at TaylorMade
"The No. 1 thing Snell wants you to know is that a player's ball speed is not the most important aspect of fitting a golf ball. It's the launch angle and spin rate of a golf ball that golfers should monitor the most closely. That's because at tour swing speeds, a 1 percent increase in ball speed equates to only about 2.5 yards of extra distance. But a change in launch angle, say from 9 degrees with 2500 rpm of spin to 12 degrees with the same amount of spin can add as much as 15 to 20 yards of distance. Golfers would be hard pressed, however, to find a new golf ball that can cause such a drastic change in their launch conditions off of the driver. But where they can find radical improvements with different golf balls is with their shorter clubs."
