Tips for Senior Golfers
Senior golfers hitting it shorter does not mean higher scores.
Senior golfers, here are five tips to help you hit it straighter and lower your score.
Senior golfers tip #1 The mental part of the game. Most all seniors hit the ball shorter so think about this. Most all par 4's are 400 yards or less, and we know we can not get ON the green in 2, so why not hit the drive 150 to 160 yards, and then a iron 130 yards and you only have about 100 to 110 yards to the green. That way you will be putting for par. You can do the same thing for the par 5's and get on in 4.
Senior golfers tip #2 Most senior golfers will slice the ball, so here is a tip to hit it straighter. When you tee it up and ready to swing, think of it as a baseball or softball and you want to hit it to right field. Swing inside--to outside.
Senior golfers tip #3 Most of us are not as flexible as younger players so if we shorten our back swing this will give us more control of the shot, and also better balance. Always keep in mind on ever shot you MUST accelerate Through the ball with speed, which will give you more distance. This should be done on all shots, woods, irons, sand shots, etc. Never slow down on your swing as you come through the ball, not even on putts.
Senior golfers tip #4 This is a important tip to hit it straighter. The grip, if your shots are going to the right, turn your grip more to the right. A little at a time. If they are going to the left, turn then to the left. (Both hands). Do NOT grip the club with a tight grip, you will lose distance and control.
Senior golfers tip #5 Your weight shift is very important for hitting it further. Again we have lost some of our shifting of weight over the years, so try this. When you are ready to swing with your shorter swing (better balance to) keep your weight about 60 to 70% on the inside of your left foot and then as you start your downward swing put your weight on your left foot as you follow through. You should feel like you are in position to start walking after your ball.
